Most people who give up on retinol didn’t buy the wrong bottle. They used it too often.
Short answer:
- Yes, it is a sensible first retinol for sensitive skin. At 0.1%, it has the lowest stated dose of the Korean retinols I checked.
- How often matters more than strength. Start with two nights a week and a pea-sized amount.
- Change is slow. Judge it over months, not weeks.
Approved means I read the full label and would be fine with a patient using it. It is not a guarantee.

COSRX The Retinol 0.1 Cream, 20 mL.
Which Korean retinols say how strong they are?
I only counted products whose brand site gives the retinol dose as a number:
- COSRX The Retinol 0.1 Cream: 0.1%, 20 mL, $21.60 on the brand’s site. COSRX says it is for first-time retinol users.
- SKIN1004 Retinol 0.2 Boosting Shot Ampoule: 0.2%, 30 mL. The label also lists retinal, a stronger relative of retinol, with no amount given.
- COSRX The Retinol 0.3 Cream: 0.3%, 20 mL. COSRX says it is for people already used to retinol.
No number means no fair comparison, so I left those out.
Why start at 0.1%?
Higher strengths tend to bring more redness, flaking and stinging. Sensitive skin does better starting low and slow. Because SKIN1004 adds retinal, it may feel stronger than its number suggests (clinical judgement, not a proven fact). A gentle path is 0.1%, then 0.2%, then 0.3%.
What else is on the label?
- Soothing helpers: panthenol and adenosine.
- Water holders: trehalose and glycerin.
- Richer moisturisers: shea butter and soybean oil.
I found no fragrance or essential oils listed. The brand page does not show the full ingredient list, so I read retailer listings. Check the box before you buy.
What I tell my patients
- Weeks 1 to 2: two nights a week, a thin layer on fully dry skin.
- Weeks 3 to 6: if your skin stays calm, every other night.
- If it stings, cut the nights first. Here is how to dilute retinol.
- Sunscreen every morning. These Korean sunscreens don’t sting the eyes.
- Red after a laser? Calm the skin first with a soothing cica balm.
- Eczema or rosacea? See a doctor before you start. Skip retinol if you are pregnant or planning to be.

FAQ
Is COSRX retinol 0.1 good for sensitive skin?
It is a reasonable first retinol for sensitive skin. Start with two nights a week and move up slowly.
Is 0.1% retinol strong enough to do anything?
Changes are slow. A systematic review found the evidence for over-the-counter retinol cosmetics is still weak [1].
Can I use COSRX retinol with vitamin C?
Use them at different times: vitamin C in the morning, retinol at night. That tends to irritate less (clinical judgement, not a proven fact).
